You can now receive CHAPS payments into any Griffin provided bank account.

In the API response, the payment-scheme for inbound CHAPS admissions will show as chaps. Below is an example of what you can expect to see. Find out more in our documentation linked here.

What's CHAPS?

CHAPS (Clearing House Automated Payment System) is the UK's same-day payment system for high-value and time-critical payments. It's typically used for transactions like property purchases, business payments, or other large transfers that need to be settled quickly.

Setting up webhooks to track payments

Setting up webhooks for CHAPS is the same as other payment types. See below for the key lifecycle stages. If you already have these set up then you don’t need to do anything.

  • payment-created notifies you that an inbound payment has been received

  • admission-created confirms the payment is being processed

  • admission-updated signals the payment status has changed (delivered, rejected, or returned)

  • transaction-created confirms the funds have been credited to the account, including updated balance information

Pooled accounts reminder

For pooled accounts, you'll need to add pooled account members before receiving payments. You can find out how to do this in our guide to managing pooled account members.

Outbound CHAPS: coming soon

We’re working on outbound CHAPS payments so you can send money from Griffin provided accounts via CHAPS. Stay tuned!
